Advertising and Marketing
My task was to create an advertisement and a mood board for my product "Dunn's river hot sauce" which was chosen for me by my teacher (by random allocation).
This here is my advertisement which i created within 2-3 days for my Hot sauce advert. First i made a sketch of advert to see how my a products will fit on a page, then i had to use a software called Photoshop, It contains my product (hot sauce at the far right) with 4 different hot sauce brands, i did this to compare them against each other to show that my product is the best and to persuade buyers to be more interested in my product than the others.
This is my mood board which i created to help me think and create ideas for my advertisement. It gave me many ideas and it showed different type of conventions used within chilli sauce adverts. I had to gather at least 20 images for my mood board from hot sauce adverts and from similar products such as ketchup and barbecue sauce.
My target market is people who enjoy adding a little spice to there food which is mostly adults because they cook food and normally have money to buy it, most children cannot handle the heat of hot sauce. i used alot of conventions through out my advertisement such as; slogan, key image, small print, company brand and colour scheme. I believe that i did well but if i had enough time i would've made my product look better than how it looks now.
Music Videos
My second project was to create a music video, i was put into a group containing 4 participants (including me) and we filmed a music video to the the song "did you see" by the the artist known as J-Hus.
Within my music video i used many classic conventions used within music videos like narrative e.g. male and female and also miming lyrics to the song as if we were the ones singing the song. We used low angle shots which is common in many hip-hop songs as it makes the main character/artist seem superior towards the audience as they look upwards to the character/artist. Direct address is also used to build a connection with the viewer of the song, this makes it more interesting for them as they relate to the song.
In the music video we used a car as a prop to present the male as wealthy and successful, the setting we used was a car park which suggested that he just came out of his car and was getting some fresh air before he met two girls that he decided to speak to because he found them attractive.
Todorov's Narrative Theory:
We applied Todorov's narrative theory to our music video narrative. His theory suggests that all narratives follow a three part structure where they begin with equilibrium, where everything is balanced, progress as something comes along to disrupt that equilibrium, and finally reach a resolution, when equilibrium is restored. The equilibrium is presented at the beginning of the music video as all 3 characters within the narratives don't know each other and the two females are unaware that the boy who has moved to them is talking to both of them at the same time. The event which disrupts the equilibrium is when the boys phone rings and both of the girls find out that he is chatting to two girls at the same time. The girls later solve it out by meeting each other in person after the phone call, teaming up and leaving the boy upset as his plans fail.
Van Zoonen's Theory:
We used Van Zoonen's feminist theory in our music video. Her theory suggests that the female body is seen as an object and something to be looked at for male entertainment whereas the male body is seen as a dominating object, a spectacle and something to be appreciated.
Evaluation
My target audience were young adults/teens because they're the type of generation that mostly listen to hip hop music and are obsessed with the hip-hop culture. Most of the scenes went well whilst recording and we had our narrative under control because we all knew our roles and what to do. I learnt that it is better to have more then one type of angle shot for one scene, so therefore if i had the chance i would film more for the different angles and add more to the scenes to make the narrative more interesting.
Film Poster
Within this task i've been asked to produce my own film poster for an original film concept. I will have to plan the photography and the design on my poster individually, include all industry conventions and then submit my outcome for assessment on my media website.
The genre which i've picked to make a poster on is Comedy, the poster may have the main characters laughing or looking confused, normally facial expressions may be exaggerated, e.g "big mommas, like fathers like son" aka "big mama 3", "dumb and dumber", "step brothers" and many more.
Comedy is a professional entertainment consisting of jokes and sketches, intended to make an audience laugh. Usually on a comedy poster you will find the settings to be in an open area or a known area, the lighting would be bright so that the characters are clear to see, they usually use bright colours and its very common that shots are taken in the daylight.

In this poster we can see that the movie is about two males presented as brothers, the lighting is bright and the image is clear. The facial expressions sums up their personality through out the whole film e.g if a character has a confused facial expression it may suggest that she/he is not a serious character.

Evaluation
Overall, I strongly believe that the production of my film poster went well, i use Photoshop to my full potential and use many tools to edit the characters of the main image. I learnt many things during this task, e.g. the conventions used on a film poster, how to place them on a film poster, how to change the looks of people using Photoshop and not to apply downloaded fonts onto Photoshop. The only problem I had was that the timing was quite short so I had to try squeeze and do many of my ideas with a small, limited time range. If I had another chance then I would probably change the genre.
